Deserving and Undeserving
The title Deserving and Undeserving comes from a book about the criteria people, agencies, and governments determine who is deserving of care and empathy.

This site-specific piece is set in a church parking lot. I used to pass by this church often and always thought the Mother and Child statue seemed so lonely. I decided to make a friend or companion for it. My statue was meant to be a copy that would lose some of the original's details and refinements. To this end, I really liked that my statue did not get the protection of original's portico.
My statue was made quickly from plywood, foam, and concrete patch-- all of which made my statue lightweight and easy to reassemble. This was important because I was not interested in asking permission from the church. This made it possible to install quickly and with no mess, which I did one night.
The church seemingly adopted my statue--even putting rosaries on it, at times-- until the impermanent construction of my statue made it necessary to ultimately discard.
