Very Gentle Protest
I rented a desk in a shared workspace in New York City. This particular space offered a shared receptionist, which meant that I never had to be there. I mailed cards out to announce the "show," and let people schedule appointments with the receptionist.

In my office, I built a small-scale pastoral landscape, complete with a waterfall. The office space was otherwise decorated with "normal" office things, like papers with important dates, office supplies, and so on.
I was careful never to interfere with anyone else's work and really enjoyed exploring my ideas of drudgery and mundane work often associated with working in an office. I liked imagining that all work surfaces had been replaced with a kind of play space.
